The Hiding Place / Jalan Kayu
Just visited Denise's blog. It gave me the urge to write about our CIP over the weekends at the Hiding Place!
I became quite pro in filling the pastries with grated pineapples. Not easy ok, especially the part when you have to transfer the grated pineapples from moulds to the tart bases. Requires skills!![Beams with pride, hee hee.]
Besides learning how to place the grated pineapples onto the pastries, we tasted the famous roti prata [oh i didn't know that] at Jalan Kayu. Yimeng, Denise and I decided to walk to that roti prata shop. Along our journey, I took a photo of the back of Denise carrying an umbrella, walking under the sun [You're so feminine, Denise!!] and a deserted route that leads to the forest. It looked so scary and you won't know what's going to happen next once follow that route - until you get to the heart of the forest. Besides, we heard dog's howling not far away. Didn't know such places exist in Singapore!! [Suagu.]
Anyway, the roti prata at Jalan Kayu Prata Shop didn't taste extremely delicious. It's just average, despite it being "The One & Only Best Crispy Prata in Jalan Kayu for the 21st Century". Probably because there were only 2 prata shops in that area. So it's either the Only Best, or the Second Only Best. But frankly I was marvelled at the wide range of prata available for sale - strawberry prata, cheese prata, ice-cream prata.. Yeah, product innovation and differentiation.
Then in the bus stop, where we waited for bus 86 that would take us back to the Hiding Place, we realised that this part shophouses looked so much like those in Malaysia. Cos' the electric wires were exposed; not hidden in the ground.
What an eye-opener for a country bumpkin like me!
