爱上小红点
music none
Yay, after giving much consideration and making arrangments with my work schedule, I finally joined my favourite Mediacorp variety programme of this year so far-- "Code Red" (《爱上小红点》)!!
Did a lot of sms-ing to gather friends to join but haven't got much replies (wonder if some of them had really received the message cos my sms seemed to have been ignored).. Anyways, luckily Gwen and Jiajia came along and the three of us indeed got richer at the end of the treasure hunt. (:
We, together with 17 other group members (cum new made friends), were attached to Kym Ng for the game.
Although Kym is quite "auntie-alike" (omg am I going to be whacked for making such a comment), she's super friendly and humorous! She can be noisy but makes the crew laugh at the same time. Can see that she's got talent in hosting.
It's always been a fun experience having to participate in variety show recordings (although most of the time will "kena" scoldings from the director or producer for some inevitable mistakes) and being given the chance to take a peek at how it is filmed. I'm amazed that they actually used trolleys instead of tracks to do the moving shots. The cameramen must have got steady hands!!
Big thanks to leaders Hawk and Shuzhen, who went out with Kym to look for the location and searched for the "Little Red Dot"; Freda for being a "Singapore places-know-it-all"; Waipeng for his "golden hands" for picking the treasure hunt spots that happened to be nearby each other, and other members for bring copies of street directories, Singapore map and buying guides, and making the right decisions.
I've always liked the concept of this programme-- to allow viewers to get to know Singapore through a light-hearted manner. Very informative and educational. It not only tests the intelligence of participants, but also the team spirit. At the meantime, it incorporates excitement. Hope it can win the MCS Star Awards for Variety Shows this year. I'm sure the crew has put in much effort, especially the programme researchers who had to go around the island looking for 15 unique areas in Singapore and planting the "Little Red Dots" at those places in each episode!
There're altogether 10 episodes; the one I participated is the last episode, whereby treasure hunt spots are spread all over Singapore.
Another two take-aways from joining "Code Red": new friendships, and photos with hosts Kym, Michelle, Adrian, Ben!! (:

If you haven't got an idea what "Code Red" is about, here's a simple description of how the game is
played, based on Mediacorp's website: http://ch8.mediacorptv.com/shows/variety/view/864/1/.html.
"Code Red" is a variety show on a nation-wide treasure hunt that will see Singaporeans traipsing round our little sunny island in search of the 15 red dots (represented by red foam balls) hidden in demarcated residential areas.
Each week, a total of 60 participants will be selected for the hunt. These participants will be divided into three groups, each represented by two team leaders and one host who will physically embark on the hunt. The remaining 18 participants will form the base camp support team, which will strategise and provide necessary information and guidance.
At the beginning of the hunt, each host and the two team leaders will be given a clue. They will need to find the designated point and complete the tasks before they can move on to the next point. The tasks can also involve base camp members.
Back at the base camp, the support teams led by host Ben Yeo will strategise and monitor their groups' progress from three big screens. Team leaders can communicate with their groups via 3G phones. Base camp members can even request for a change of leadership and two other members will be sent out to replace the original leaders.
The $10,000 cash prize, to be divided among all 20 members, will go to the team that finds the most
number of red dots within the time limit. The two losing teams will each get a consolation prize of
$1,000, also to be divided among all 20 members.
